16 year old arrested in murder of wife defending husband

    Published on

A teenager has been arrested in the murder of a 57-year-old New York woman who came to the defense of her husband during a robbery.

ABC7 reports the 16 year old has not been publicly identified due to his age. Prosecutors charged the boy with murder, criminal possession of a weapon and burglary.

According to CBS New York, two boys followed the husband of Ying Zhu Liu into his apartment building and up to the eighth floor where he lives.

The 61-year-old husband says two suspects tried to rob him in the hallway. His son who had been waiting for his father by the elevator tried to stop the teens but was pistol whipped. That’s when Liu came out of the apartment with a stick after hearing the commotion.

The husband says the suspects shot her in the face.

The Gothamist says the teens got away with a cell phone and $100. This is the second arrest this week of a teenager for murder. A 15 year old is facing charges for the murder of 66-year-old William Alcindor in Queens.
