Rise of scam calls targeting the Chinese-American Community, posing as government officials

    Published on

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – The Department of Justice is warning the Chinese-American community about scam callers posing as government officials or healthcare workers.

The office of Attorney General Jeff Jackson reports a rise in scammers calling and pretending to be employees who manage insurance claims for health care providers.

The scammer will ask if the person has traveled to China for surgery. After the person says “no,” they tell them that an insurance claim has been filed using the victim’s information.

The scammers then offer to “transfer” the victim to law enforcement, only to connect them with another scammer.
