TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – As the clock approached 5pm local time, hundreds of people packed the main stage of the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival (JAFF) Market 2025 at Grha Pradipta, Jogja Expo Center, Bantul, Yogyakarta, on Monday, December 1, 2025. They came to see the festival’s closing event and find out which films secured funding and which upcoming works by Indonesian filmmakers were poised to become next year’s standouts.

Since opening on Saturday, November 29, JAFF Market has served as a bustling marketplace for film industry players. The exhibition hall brimmed with business deals and networking among executives and filmmakers. “The enthusiasm is stronger than ever. It feels like Lebaran (end of fasting month celebration) for the film ecosystem,” JAFF Market Director Linda Gozali told Tempo on Friday, December 12.

This year marked the second edition of JAFF Market. Linda said the event involved 116 exhibitors from 122 companies. The presence of 1,431 accredited industry participants and 7,800 visitors made this year’s festival far livelier than the previous one. Delegations from more than 14countries filled meeting rooms focused on financing, co-productions, and cross-regional distribution.

JAFF’s research team recorded the value of business deals at Rp43 billion (about US$2.5 million), up from Rp30 billion (US$1.8 million) last year. The economic impact of this year’s JAFF Market was estimated at Rp130 billion (US$7.8 million), three and a half times higher than last year. The figure included lodging, transportation, labor, and exhibition production costs.
