Some of the most frequent questions I’m asked as a food reporter:

    1. Where’s a good place to go out for Chinese food?
    2. Where’s a nice, QUIET place to go out to eat?

Manting House, a new Asian fusion restaurant, fits the bill for both.

It opened in late 2025 in the roomy building in Winton Place that’s been home to several restaurants, most recently Trio. The space has been given a bright, airy, modern look accented with plants and eye-catching lighting.

The menu focuses on Chinese food with an emphasis on spicy Sichuan dishes like dry pot and mala hot pot; familiar Chinese-American fare; and dim sum. Chef’s specials include whole fish preparations, lobster dishes, smoked duck and dishes with black truffle.

If you dine at the full-service restaurant, you’ll be given laminated menus with color photos of some of the dishes. The full menu is found on an iPad handed out to each table, or you could pull up the menu from the website on your phone. Ordering takes place on the restaurant’s iPad.

Most of the dishes are large portions geared for sharing. They are served family-style, delivered to the table hot from the kitchen as they are ready. Favorites during our visit: sizzling black pepper beef tenderloin, served on a hot skillet; stir-fried eggplant with green beans; and golden shrimp casserole, a Thai dish with an abundance of cellophane noodles and an aromatic sauce.

American and Chinese sodas and teas are offered, as are juices and an assortment of well-known wines.

If you’re dining (or taking out) alone, a good alternative may be one of the combination plates, served with a spring roll, white rice and soup for $15.

Have I mentioned the place was quiet? It was, early on a Sunday night when it wasn’t busy and the seating at tables was spread out. The music was soft and calm, meaning that the owners are not deliberately creating a loud environment. But with a lot of hard surfaces – the current design trend – it could be noisier on a busy night. Plan accordingly.

    If you go

Manting House is at 3423 Winton Place in Henrietta, off Winton Road. It is open for lunch and dinner daily and offers takeout. It has plenty of parking in its own lot. Find the full menu and order online at mantinghouse.com. Call (585) 239-8182.

Accessibility: The space is accessible, with conventional height tables and a good amount of room for maneuvering.
