Asian Hospital and Medical Center, a member of Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Health, earned top honors for its leadership and innovation at the Hospital Management Asia (HMA) Awards 2024 held in Bali, Indonesia.

The hospital’s CEO, Dr. Beaver Tamesis, and its stroke unit, led by neurologist, Dr. Jennifer Manzano, stood out among a competitive field across Asia.

Tamesis was awarded Hospital CEO of the Year for his visionary leadership, which has been instrumental in elevating Asian Hospital’s status as a beacon of medical excellence. He outperformed three other finalists, with his inclusive approach and strategic foresight reshaping the hospital’s landscape.

Manzano, director of the Brain Institute, clinched the Gold Award for Clinical Effectiveness Improvement. Since its inception in 2016, the stroke unit has revolutionized stroke care with its BEFAST program—an acronym for Balance, Eyes, Face, Arm, Speech, and Time. This initiative has significantly improved stroke detection and reduced treatment times.

Asian Hospital’s commitment to operational efficiency was also recognized with the Best in Financial Improvement award. The hospital’s energy-saving initiatives have not only enhanced its financial performance but also demonstrated its dedication to sustainability.

Among the other awardees, Maria Martina Geraldine Dimalibot of St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City was named Chief Nurse of the Year.

Medical City South Luzon’s Dr. Cesar Espiritu earned a spot as a finalist for Best CEO, for his successful efforts in driving creativity and innovation at work.

Philippine hospitals secured finalist positions in eight of the nine categories, more than any other nation. This achievement reflects the country’s rising prominence in the regional healthcare arena despite ongoing challenges.
