The University of Pennsylvania Monday suspended a law professor who once said the country would be better off with “fewer Asians” and also called India a sh**hole country.

Some had demanded for Amy Wax to be fired.

The Philly Voice reports that instead, she will be suspended for one year for what the faculty senate committee called “flagrantly unprofessional conduct.”

She will also forfeit summer pay, lose her named chair at Penn and be required to include a disclaimer whenever making public appearances that she is not speaking for the university or its law school.

The university called the decision “final” and ends a two-year review of her conduct.

Wax had appealed an earlier ruling after a board last year chose to sanction her following a hearing.

In 2021, Wax stated during an interview that the county would be better off with “fewer Asians and less immigration.”

“It’s just harder to assimilate those people or to have confidence that our way of life will continue if we bring a lot of people in who are not familiar with it,” she said.

In another appearance on Fox, she described India as a “sh**hole country” and singled out Brahmin women from India, stating that although they enjoy success in the U.S., they continue to “dump on America” despite their success.

Brahmins are members of the highest caste in Hinduism and comprise around 5 percent of India’s population.

Inside Higher Education reports the ruling Monday culminates a controversy between those who considered her remarks academic freedom protected speech versus those who say that freedom does not include remarks widely deemed as racist.

Wax declined to comment.

She is not losing her job or her tenure.

Wax has continuously invited white nationalist to speak at one of her classes, according to the Daily Pennsylvanian.

She has also made disparaging remarks about the academic achievements of Black students and that “our country will be better off with more whites and fewer nonwhites.”
