Indian Americans call for Bangladesh sanctions – AsAmNews

    Published on

Following the election of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, Indian American communities have raised concerns over the alleged persecution of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh, urging the incoming administration to impose sanctions.

Reports from Times of India indicate that community leader Bharat Barai has advocated for economic actions, specifically targeting Bangladesh’s garment industry, which accounts for a significant portion of the country’s GDP. The proposed measures are designed to pressure Bangladesh into stronger protections for minority rights and to address ongoing reports of violence and systemic discrimination.

The Daily Sun states that Barai has also urged the Indian government to take a proactive role in the issue. This includes diplomatic engagement with Bangladeshi authorities and potential economic consequences, emphasizing the responsibility of regional powers in safeguarding minority populations.
