Far right-wing activist and Trump supporter Laura Loomer described Indian Americans as “third world invaders,” in a post on social media.
The comment set off a debate between former Indian American presidential candidates Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy.
Loomer made her remarks while discussing H1B visas and the appointment of Sriram Krishnan as senior policy adviser for Artificial Intelligence at the White House.
In a heated discussion about the visa program that allows tech companies to bring professionals from India and other countries to work for them, Loomer said “Our country was built by White Europeans, actually. Not third world invaders from India…
“You know, it was White Europeans who created the American Dream, and we didn’t create it so that it could be exploited by pro-open border techies… PS: why are people in India still sh*tting in the water they bath and drink from?”
That prompted a response from Ramaswamy who said “Tough questions demand tough answers & if we’re really serious about fixing the problem, we have to confront the TRUTH:
“Our American culture has venerated mediocrity over excellence for way too long (at least since the 90s and likely longer). That doesn’t start in college, it starts YOUNG. A culture that celebrates the prom queen over the math Olympiad champ, or the jock over the valedictorian, will not produce the best engineers.”
To that Haley replied “There is nothing wrong with American workers or American culture. All you have to do is look at the border and see how many want what we have. We should be investing and prioritizing in Americans, not foreign workers.”
Loomer opposed the Trump appointment of Krishnan who supports eliminating the cap on green cards from specific countries, but not the cap overall, according to First Post.
Loomer has previously described herself as a “proud Islamophobe.”
