San Francisco man charged in brutal Chinatown attack – AsAmNews

    Published on

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that 39-year-old Jing Zhuang Li has been charged with multiple felonies, including two counts of attempted murder, following a violent attack on two elderly women in Chinatown. The incident occurred on December 26, 2024, inside an apartment building on the 600 block of Broadway.

As described by KRON4, Li allegedly used a 17-inch-long metal wrench to repeatedly strike an 87-year-old neighbor. When a 69-year-old tenant intervened, she was also attacked, suffering severe injuries. The brutality of the assault left the older victim with a fractured skull and significant bleeding, while the younger woman sustained three rib fractures, a skull fracture, a concussion, scalp lacerations, and a torn ear.

The charges against Li include two counts of attempted murder, mayhem, elder abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, and first-degree burglary. According to Hoodline, DA Jenkins stated, “There is no place for violence in our city. I wish the victims a speedy recovery. My office will now do everything in our power to fight for justice in the courtroom for the victims and all of those impacted by this attack.”

Li’s arraignment is scheduled for January 6, 2025. The DA’s office has requested that he remain detained pending trial due to the public safety risk he poses.

The case remains under investigation. Authorities encourage anyone with additional information to contact the San Francisco Police Department’s Tip Line at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411. Both victims are continuing to recover from their injuries, and the attack has reignited concerns about elder safety and community violence in Chinatown.
