Amphibian Stage’s SparkFest spotlights Asian-American and Pacific Islander artists

    Published on

Amphibian Stage doesn’t have “theater” in its name, for good reason. While built around stage dramas, the Fort Worth company prominently features dance, comedy and music as well.

Spotlighting Asian-American and Pacific Islander artists this year, the Fort Worth outfit’s annual SparkFest runs the gamut, extending the mission to include visual art, fashion, film, poetry, community storytelling and an acting competition. And three new plays are part of the mix.

In the autobiographical Did You Eat?, playwright Zoë Kim transforms into members of her family to explore the concept of love. In her play Barren, Alex Lin portrays an obstetrician-gynecologist who wants to have a baby but can’t even as she’s ensuring the healthy delivery of her sister’s. And in Keiko Green’s You Are Cordially Invited to the End of the World!, Jerome Beck plays a man with a terminal illness, a fate he shares with the planet.
