LOS ANGELES – A coalition of Asian American advocates are calling for the suspension of KFI’s Bill Handel. The radio show host has repeatedly made remarks about “dog-eating Asians.”
This isn’t the first time Handel has gotten in trouble for anti-Asian comments.
“You just can’t have Korean people do it, that’s all…” Handel says.
He was talking about people adopting shelter dogs, suggesting Koreans should not be allowed to adopt because they would eat them.
“It’s a thing, it’s a thing!” he says.
The Media Action Network for Asian Americans says Handel made the offensive remarks between May and October of this year.
“We have at least five incidents which we recorded and put out in a press release so people can hear for themselves,” said Guy Aoki with MANAA.
In one clip, Handel seems to use recipes for “Korean dog soup” and “Chinese cat stir fry,” seemingly to discount the claim that Haitians were eating dogs and cats in Ohio.
“I’m trying for the life of me to look at a Haitian recipe for dogs and cats and I can’t find one!” he says.
MANAA’s Aoki points to the threats Haitians in Ohio received and worries.
“Look what is happening in Springfield, Ohio, after those irresponsible comments by Trump and JD Vance, and you can relate to add to what’s happened to us.”
This isn’t the first time Handel found himself in trouble with MANAA.
He had to apologize and was suspended after comments about figure skaters Kristi Yamaguchi and Michelle Kwan.
