Six years after the film’s release, a spin-off of this romcom is in the works with HBO now confirming the development of a Crazy Rich Asians TV Show. 

Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, confirmed exclusively to Variety that a Crazy Rich Asians TV series is on the way. 

With this exciting news, everyone who adores the love story between Rachel and Nick can look forward to more drama, adventure, and captivating moments. 

Asian cinema has experienced a significant surge in popularity, driven by films such as Parasite and Crazy Rich Asians. New and exciting projects have been made possible by this increase in interest.

“There are other properties like The Conjuring, which is a big movie franchise that we’re developing into a series, as well as Crazy Rich Asians,” said Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, highlighting this trend. 

Box Office Mojo showed that the film became an immediate blockbuster, earning over $200 million at the box office despite being produced on a relatively modest budget. 

The news of the upcoming TV series came as a surprise, especially since the film spinoff Crazy Rich Asians 2 and 3 appeared to have stalled resulting in the future of the franchise being highly uncertain.

Bloys kept details under wraps during his announcement, suggesting that the Crazy Rich Asians TV series is in its early stages of development. It’s unclear if the recently revealed series will take the place of any of the two sequel movies and spinoffs that are still in development.

Furthermore, there is currently no confirmed release date for the project, and no cast or crew members have been announced. 

However, The Cosmopolitan suggests that the TV show could possibly be based on Kevin Kwan’s second book in the trilogy, ‘China Rich Girlfriend’, but still will dive deeper into Nick and Rachel’s relationship.
