Director Kiyoshi Kurosawa won the Asian Film of the Year Award.
The opening ceremony of the 29th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) was held at Haeundae Film Center in Busan on the afternoon of the 2nd. Actor Park Bo-young and Ahn Jae-hong hosted the event.
The Asian Filmmaker Award, which is given to the person who showed the most outstanding activity in the development of the Asian film industry and culture, went to director Kiyoshi Kurosawa. Director Kiyoshi Kurosawa will meet the audience with two films, “The Path of the Snake (2024)” and “The Cloud.”
Director Kiyoshi Kurosawa said on stage, “It’s been 40 years since I started the movie. It has been 20 years since I participated in the Busan International Film Festival. It can be said that the Busan Film Festival has been watching half of my movie life. I think I was able to receive an honorable award in recognition of my career. I’m so touched. So far, it’s a story of the past,” he said in his acceptance speech.
“I completed two movies this year, and I’m most happy that both of them were screened at this Busan Film Festival. The audience of the Busan Film Festival is the highest in the world. I came to Busan to present two of the latest films to the audience. Please look forward to those who have been watching my work since 20 years ago and those who are seeing it for the first time this time. Thank you again,” he said.
This year’s Busan Film Festival, which marks its 29th anniversary, will feature 278 films from 63 countries, including 54 community beef screenings.
The opening film is the Netflix movie ‘Jeon, Lan’. “Jeon-Ran” is a story about Jong-ryeo (Park Jung-min), the son of Joseon’s highest military family, who grew up together, and his body servant Cheon-young (Kang Dong-won) becoming an enemy with the closest officer of King Seon-jo (Cha Seung-won) and meeting again as a righteous army. It was produced by director Park Chan-wook and director Kim Sang-man took the megaphone. Actor Kang Dong-won, Park Jung-min, Cha Seung-won, and Jung Sung-il appeared.
The 29th Busan International Film Festival will be held through the 11th around the Seoul Cinema Center.
