The friends and family of Zoey Suyun He, a 25-year-old Honolulu woman who was murdered in Seattle, have organized to honor her memory and seek justice. A GoFundMe campaign was created on Monday to help with memorial services, upcoming legal expenses, and to support her family and dog.

“Zoey was always respectful, quiet, extremely generous and exemplified the “local style” in all that she did.”, says the GoFundMe post. “Family and friends will always remember when she passionately shared comments or a story, her face lit up and displayed the most infectious smile and laughter.”.

“We all miss Zoey, and will forever cherish the memories she instilled in us.”

He, a University of Hawai’i at Manoa alum, worked in various positions in retail and hospitality sector in Hawai’i, according to the GoFundMe, and was working as human resources generalist at Marriott International in Honolulu, the Honolulu-Star Advertiser reported.

He was killed in a Seattle townhouse belonging to her boyfriend, Andy Chu, on Aug. 9, four days shy of her 26th birthday. Her body was found by Seattle police on Aug. 10, after neighbors complained to landlord about water coming from the unit, according to FOX 13 Seattle.

Hawaii News Now reported the autopsy showed “blunt force trauma to her face, head, neck, chest, arms, and legs.”, as well as a white ball lodged in the throat.

Chu was arrested on Aug. 11 after allegedly groping and assaulting a nurse at a Seattle hospital, and was charged with first-degree murder on Aug. 17, after admitting to killing He, according to court documents. Chu is currently being held on a $5 million bail, and is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

In an update on the GoFundMe announced on Friday by Courtney Yamamoto, the fundraiser’s organizer, memorial services will be held in Honolulu on Sept.10. He’s burial will take place on later that day in Kaneohe. A celebration of life is planned for Oct. 1. As of Friday afternoon, the fundraiser has raised over $16,964.

“Thank you to everyone who has graciously provided your kind and generous sentiments to the He family during this time.

“We are hoping that friends, family, and the local community will help support the He family during this incredibly challenging time. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference and we thank you in advance for your generosity.”.
