Col. Pergentino Malabed Jr. has been named as one of the 67 killed in the American Airlines plane collision with a U.S. military helicopter near Ronald Reagan Airport.

Malabed, the 51-year-old chief of the Philippine National Police, was aboard the airplane, according to Politiko. He had traveled to India to inspect armored vests for the PNP. Malabed was on his way to Washington, D.C. after a final inspection in Kansas, where the passenger plane departed from.

The officer’s passport was recovered from the wreckage.

The Department of Foreign Affairs released a statement offering condolences to Malabed’s family, who arrived in the United States on Sunday to identify his remains.

Authorities have not yet clarified when Malabed’s body would be repatriated to the Philippines, per ABS-CBN.

Investigators are still searching for answers to one of the deadliest U.S. aviation disasters in recent history.
