JACKSON, Tenn.– As the month of May comes to an end, this month has been designated as Asian American and Pacific Islanders Heritage month.

This afternoon the weekly celebration of AAPI Month continued in downtown Jackson at City Hall.

Featured were Jerie Joy Broadway on guitar and performing a song and  Catherine Cheng performing a flute selection .

AAPI Heritage Month live performances have been going on each Friday in May to celebrate.

Organizers say the entire month has been exciting for the city’s inaugural celebration event.

“The Asian American Pacific Islander community exists here in Jackson and what we have been doing for the city as well. So, I think its giving the people more information about who we are, what we do and the impact we have here in the city as well,” said Dr. Sandra Dee, co-chair of Jackson International Food and Art Festival.

Organizers say they’re looking forward to next year’s celebration.
