‘Nurse Unseen’ highlights contributions of Filipino nurses – AsAmNews

Nurse Unseen, a documentary about Filipino nurses in the U.S. who put their lives on the line during the Covid pandemic, is currently in limited release which makes it Oscar-eligible, Asian Journal reported.

“Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Michele Josue, Nurse Unseen takes an intimate look at the lives of Filipino nurses through personal accounts, historical context, and stories of loss and survival during the pandemic,” Asian Journal said.

“The film looked into the colonial ties between the Philippines and the United States, tracing how these nurses came to be integral to the American healthcare system and why they were especially vulnerable during the health crisis,” it said.

Screenings in New York City in October during Filipino American History Month sold out, prompting additional showings that made the film Oscar-eligible — and it is now available for Academy members in the Academy Screening Room for voting purposes, Asian Journal said.

The Nurse Unseen website lists upcoming screenings in Newport News, Virginia Beach, and Norfolk in Virginia (Nov. 16), Kailua, Hawaii (Dec. 6-8) as well as Vancouver and Amsterdam.
