State police investigate home burglaries in Hudson Valley targeting Asian American residents

New York State Police are investigating a string of home burglaries in the Hudson Valley. Three residential burglaries targeting the homes of Asian American residents have been reported.

“It doesn’t sit well with me and it doesn’t make me feel more secure in my community,” says Alice, a Westchester resident. “It’s certainly distressing. It’s upsetting to know that it’s targeted to a specific population.”

“My initial reaction is outrage. We all have to do what we can to protect ourselves, protect our neighbors,” Marjorie Hsu, co-chair of the Westchester County Asian Advisory Board.

State police say thieves have gotten away with significant amounts of cash and jewelry.

Hsu tells News 12 that she learned about this on Thursday. She says she contacted an officer on a task force she works with.

“He said he’s really not aware of anything locally so it kind of took me by surprise,” says Hsu.

David Imamura, a Westchester County legislator, says he has heard about the burglaries from the community.

“This has been something that our community has been grappling with since COVID and it seems to never end,” he says. “I’ve heard about it through channels within the Asian American community. This is something that I’m not surprised by.”

Officials are urging people to take precautions, such as locking their doors at night and improving home security.

“There’s so much we can do to support each other and strengthen the trust among neighbors,” says Hsu.

Officials also encourage people to communicate closely with their neighbors and report any suspicious activity or vehicles in their neighborhoods.
