The Pacific Grove Walk of Remembrance honors Chinese residents of the Fishing Village of Point Alones who were persecuted in the early 1900s and forced out of their homes. The event will take place on May 10. The event occurs during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.The walk has happened since 2011, first organized by Gerry Low Sabado. She was a descendant of Quock Mui, the first Chinese woman born in California.The Pacific Grove Museum will also have information about the community that was displaced, and about the lives of those in the community.“May 16, 2025, is the 119th anniversary of the burning of the Point Alones (and) Point Almeas Chinese fishing village once located in Pacific Grove,” said Randy Sabado, Gerry’s husband. The walk will start at the Pacific Grove Museum and end at Hopkins Marine Station.
