Joe and Clara Tsai this week became the first Asian American owners in the WNBA to win a championship.

The owners of the New York Liberty earned the distinction Sunday after the Libertys defeated the Minnesota Lynx 67-62 in the decisive game 5.

The Asian American Foundation marked the occasion with a post on X.

The couple has owned the Liberty since 2019. He also owns the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA.

Net Daily reports that Wu Tsai has primary control of the Liberty just as her husband has with the Nets.

“When we bought this team four years ago, they were playing in the Westchester County Center to a crowd of 2,000,” Wu Tsai told ESPN. “The first thing we wanted to do was to bring the team to Barclays Center so they could have a bigger stage.

“Then, we wanted to give them facilities and performance and nutrition and everything they deserve because they are elite professional athletes. And look what can happen when you have an intention and you put resources, care and attention to it.

“This is what can happen when you invest in women!”
