LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) – Gov. Jim Pillen on Monday selected the members of Nebraska’s first Asian-American Commission.
The new Commission on Asian-American Affairs is tasked with coordinating programs related to Nebraska’s Asian-American Community for housing, education, welfare, and employment.
The bill was originally introduced last year as LB2 by State Sen. Rita Sanders. The commission, whose 14 members will serve a four-year term, was created through the passage of LB1300 in April. All but one of the members have already been appointed:
- Maureen Brase of Raymond
- Weysan Dun of Omaha
- Deepak M. Gangahar, MD of Elkhorn
- Maorong Jiang, PhD of Omaha
- Tram Kieu of Lincoln
- Joanne Li, PhD of Omaha
- Yunwoo Nam, PhD of Lincoln
- Arunkumar Pondicherry of Lincoln
- Rebecca (Jueyezi) Reinhardt of Lincoln
- Vickie Sakurada Schaepler of Kearney
- Ryo Suzuki of Kearney
- Hiep Vu, PhD of Lincoln
- Carol Wang of Omaha
