The Sacramento Kings signed USC guard Boogie Ellis after he went undrafted in the recent 2024 NBA Draft.
This was the third post-draft signing for the Kings, following Isaiah Crawford and Isaac Jones. According to Sports Illustrated, the Kings “have been busy in undrafted free agency after not making any selections in the second round of this year’s draft.”
King’s mother is of mixed Black and Filipino heritage.
He played high school basketball for Mission Bay High School in San Diego, where he became a four-star prospect ranked as the No. 38 overall recruit and No. 7 in the 2019 cycle, as reported on by College Sports Wire. Ellis began his collegiate career playing for the Memphis Tigers at Memphis University, averaging 9.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists a game. When he was a sophomore, Ellis was named AAC Sixth Man of the Year and helped lead the Tigers to an NIT championship.
After two years with the Tigers, Ellis transferred to USC the following season, where his collegiate career began to take off. While playing for the Trojans, averaging 15.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists in three seasons.
Ellis took to Instagram to celebrate the occasion, saying “Only if y’all knew how much I been through these last 5 years I just want to thank GOD for putting me in this position been through every emotion but it made me and built me for any situation that comes nothings been given to me earned every opportunity ready for this next chapter it’s all a part of the story let’s work!”.
According to Sports Illustrated, Ellis is reportedly getting a chance to play for the Kings in the upcoming NBA Summer League, which begins on July 12 and lasts until July 22nd.
