More than 100 films to be screened at 3rd Da Nang Asian Film Festival

Jointly organised by the Vietnam Film Development Association (VFDA) and the Da Nang People’s Committee, the event will feature around 200 screenings, the organisers said at a press conference held in Hanoi on June 3.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong praised the VFDA for its dedication to developing academic cinematic activities, promoting a healthy environment for filmmakers, and enhancing international collaboration.

Dong said the festival will not only honour outstanding works but also foster professional exchange among domestic and international filmmakers. The festival will help bring culturally rich Vietnamese cinema closer to global audiences while offering local viewers a chance to explore exceptional works from diverse cultures.

VFDA Chairperson Ngo Phuong Lan noted that following two successful editions, DANAFF III will see significant growth in scale, duration and content. This year’s festival will run for seven days and showcase over 100 selected films, up from 46 in the first edition and 63 in the second.

New highlights include the “Panorama of Asian Cinema” programme, featuring acclaimed films from the past year’s international festivals and several world premieres. The festival will also launch the “Asian Film Critics Awards” under this section.

DANAFF Talents – the festival’s training and networking programme – will offer workshops on acting and project development, helping emerging filmmakers gain exposure and mentorship from local and international experts. A seminar will explore international experiences and Vietnam’s approach to nurturing high-quality talents for the film industry in a globalised context.

To celebrate 50 years of national reunification, the festival will host a special programme titled “Half a Century of Vietnamese War Cinema,” showcasing 22 post-1975 war films, along with a seminar on the legacy of this genre and discussions with renowned filmmakers and actors.

The “Korean Cinema Spotlight” will present notable Korean films and a seminar on the Republic of Korea’s success in the global film market, drawing lessons for Vietnam from Korean and international experts.

The competition section will include 14 films in the Asian Features category and 12 in the Vietnamese Features category. Additionally, the “Vietnamese Cinema Today” programme will screen 18 recent Vietnamese productions.

The opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the awards presentation ceremony, will be broadcast live on the Vietnam Television (VTV).
